Purity Prayers (& other
assorted goodies) |
A good place to start when making a promise of
commitment is in asking the question,
"Why Choose to Wait?"

|
This is a great question, surrounded in
controversy and debate ... Your Holy Father will
always love you and is very proud of these hard
decisions you make for yourself. Our Holy Bible
provides a wonderful resource of teaching and
readings that discuss the issue of purity.
1 Tim 4:12 -- "Set an example for others in
Speech, in Life, in Love, in Faith, in Purity."
Prov 22:11 -- "He who loves a pure heart and
whose speech is gracious will have the king for
his friend."
1 Cor 13:4 -- "Love is patient, love is kind. It
does not envy, it does not boast, it is not
proud..." |
Risk
of NOT Waiting - Pregnancy
Sex, last time we checked, can lead to pregnancy.
Pregnancy can be a wonderful event ... You and I would
not be here after all if it was not for a pregnancy. But
truthfully, not all pregrancies are well "thought out".
An unexpected pregnancy for a young couple outside of
marriage will certainly impact dreams and plans for the
future. Millions of unplanned pregnancies each
year result in abortion ... sometimes leaving the young
woman unable to have children later in life.
Reward of Waiting: Confidence
With a commitment to wait, confidence can now be
reinforced through the fact that your identity is your
own and no one else's. You are in charge! You are loved
and wanted for the person you are and by your good
works.
Risk
of NOT Waiting: Disease
Now, if lucky enough to avoid an enexpected pregnancy,
sex outside of marriage can lead to incredible health
risks including a wide variety of STDs. STDs can impact
your health and hte health of your future spouse.
Reward of Waiting: Your "Future" Spouse
Nothing can bind a couple in marriage than sharing in
this bond with one another. A special bond shared with
only this one special person that cannot be broken or
claimed by another.
Ring History
The ring's shape, a circle, has been used in
countless examples of continuity throughout the
years. After all, a circle has no beginning and
no end - continuing on and on. A ring is the
shape of the sun and of the full moon ... the
very things that help to sustain a balanced
life.
For millennium, ancient cultures have used a
circle / ring as a symbol of unity, and
eternity. Today, the ring holds many of the same
traditions and importance. We wear rings of
special commitment upn the third finger of the
left hand thanks to the Roman culture. The
Roman's once believed that this finger is
closest to the "Vein of Love" ... a vein thought
to lead directly to the heart.

The "Purity Ring"
-- Also often referred to as an Abstinence Ring,
a Promise Ring, or a Chastity Ring
A purity ring is a ring worn as an outword
symbol of one's commitment to refrain from
having sex (thus remain a virgin) until married.
This is a decision not taken lightly by the
wearer and is often worn with great pride.
Couples often make this commitment together and
wear similar, or even matching, purity ring
styles.
Typically the purity ring is worn on the left
hand ring finger and is often included in the
wedding ceremony when both bride and groom
exchange their purity rings at the alter for
their wedding bands.
There is really no "one" particular style of
purity ring, wearers simply choose styles /
designs of their liking as it remains their
personal symbol and reminder. Today it is
popular
for someone to select a style without
"purity" words/phrasing on the band so the
ring is personal to the commitment they have
made.
Many specific religious groups such as Baptist,
Assembly of God, Lutheran, Catholic (and many
others) teach classes about living a
healthy lifestyle and often include purity rings
in their ceremonies and "purity ball" events.
Purity rings make great gifts but should always
be presented with a clear explaination of "what
the ring represents".

Second Time
Virginity?
Heb 13:4 "Marriage should be honored by
all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God
will judge the adulterer and all the sexually
immoral."
Once someone is no longer a virgin, they cannot
simply get it back again (the human body does
not work that way). However, some people
wear their purity rings as a symbol of their
"recommitment" to a pure, healthy, holy
lifestyle. In Christ, all things are anew.
Titus 3:5 says "he saved us, not because of the
righteous things we had done, but because of his
mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new
birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
Forgiveness can always be sought for what has
taken place in the past and begin today with a
clean heart and spirit! Many of our visitors
come to us with heavy hearts - heavy with
decisions made in the past. Many find great
peace in seeking forgiveness from their Holy
Father, themselves and in the relationshps they
now and may one day hold. It is never too late
to make a change.
Living purely takes hard work. A lifestyle that
requires giving up sexual entanglements that
endanger our relationships may seem
straightforward, but can be a very difficult
path to follow.
Our Bible offers this encouragement: "Struggle
against sin using the power of the Holy Spirit.
Throw off everything that hinders and the sin
that so easily entangles and run with
perseverance the race marked out for us." Heb
12:1
